Using his scientific background and a profound love of Syrah, he and his wife, Anne, opened the laboratory, “Centre Oenologique des Côtes du Rhône”, in 1984. The work their wine consultancy does earned them the Légion d’Honneur, which is the highest award a civilian can receive in France. This should be enough to tell you that their wines are not to be missed. Les Fées Brunes Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2019 is made from grapes that were harvested by hand from 60-year-old vines. This dazzling red was matured in predominantly older oak barrels, to limit the influence of the oak. What emerges is an intense red with rich blackberry, black pepper, black cherry, damson, blackcurrant yoghurt, dark chocolate, dried herbs, spice and liquorice notes. Dark and buzzing with energy, it makes a great winter warmer for pairing with comfort food, hearty tomato-based pasta dishes, red meat (think roast lamb), game and roasted vegetables.
